IMLocate is currently configured to use a web based LBS admin system. The web based admin allows contacts to be added in the following structure. Network Members Add Member Edit Member Delete Member Add Group Edit Group Delete Group Example Network Members Menu
Once a new member has been added, the Request button sends out an SMS requesting permission to locate the new network member. This message includes a unique authorisation PIN code for the requested network member. There are 3 status icons for Members:
Users cannot locate network members until they have sent an SMS acceptance message reply to the location server. The current LBS provider for IMLocate also allows users to view messaging reports, administer their account credit, subscriptions and account details online, including the mobile number. Why IMLocate: Û The IMLocate application brings lookup requests into the palm of users hands. Û The contacts networked member list can be downloaded to IMLocate. Û The consent for lookups is managed in the normal LBS way, IMLocate does not change this. Û Network member locations are indicated with placenames. Û IMLocate uses a GPRS internet connection and the data charges are low for the user. Û IMLocate is an independent application which does not require all the network members to have it running on their mobile. Û IMLocate can be further enhanced with data services such as venue location alerts. Û Location alerts can be managed by the user in such a way that a set amount of alerts is not exceeded. Û Proximity alerts can be setup for individual contacts or places of interest. E.g. Being alerted when a best friend is nearby after work hours. Û The accuracy radius is also identified by our current LBS provider. Û We can locate mobiles on the Orange, Vodafone, 02 networks and T-Mobile networks. Û IMLocate avoids expensive hardware costs and users just need a mobile that supports Java. Û IMLocate users just need one app on their phone, their networked members do not need to have it on their mobiles. Û IMLocate allows location tracking of mobiles directly from other mobiles. Û IMLocate can easily be enhanced to show location credits Û Locations are normally traceable within 30 secs. Security Û IMLocate does not change the security model of the LBS provider. (The permission process would still be the same.) Û Block lists are stored at a central point so that users cannot query locations of users that did not gave permission. Distribution Û IMLocate can be downloaded as a .jar file. Û IMLocate can be sold via third party resellers such as Handango. Û IMLocate can be sent to users mobiles via infa-red or Bluetooth. Û IMLocate can be paid for and installed over-the-air (OTA). Û IMLocate is an MDIP 2.0 compliant application and so will be compatible with many future release mobiles. Market: Java enabled devices are forecast to increase to 150 million by end of 2005. ABI Research forecasts the steady rise of smartphone shipments growing to about 150 million units by 2008. Nokia dominates smartphone sales, taking 73.8 per cent of the market. Young people are generally impatient when it comes to communication - they need to be reachable constantly and also be able to reach others all the time. If they don't receive a reply, they need to know why they are not being answered and when the person will be available again. This continuous sharing of availability, whereabouts and intentions, as well as constant monitoring of the mobile terminal, will drive mobile content and entertainment, including location-based services. UK mobile and entertainment revenue from GPRS customers will peak at over 1.5 billion Euro in 2006 from just over 125 million Euro at the end of 2003. Cahners In-Stat found that more than 80% of the 10-17 years olds surveyed said that they would like to use instant messaging on wireless devices. Users who have adopted SMS services enthusiastically are also likely to adopt fast mobile IM service. Also, users of Internet-based IM will find mobile IM to be a big improvement, with its no limitations on location and the freedom it brings from a fixed connection. Recent market research has revealed huge potential for mobile Instant Messaging services - because they are based on presence information and a mobile terminal is the ideal and preferred device for managing presence, the market opportunities for mobile IM services are huge. Orange forecasts that in 2007, 61% of Mobile Operator Revenue will come from messaging and email (May 2004 presentation by Orange). By 2007, the European LBS market is forecast to amass EUR 200 million. At this point, LBS-enabled services are estimated to account for 10 per cent of mobile value-added services but less than one per cent of mobile data revenues. Messaging will continue to provide the bulk of mobile data revenues in the medium term. Get
